Folsom EcoHousing

A Family-Friendly Green Neighborhood

WELCOME!   We are a diverse group of people planning to build Folsom EcoHousing, a neighborhood of 38 families in Folsom, 20 miles east of Sacramento, California.  Our vision is to create an inclusive, earth-friendly community that fosters supportive relationships based on respect, cooperation, and fun.  We call ourselves both EcoHousing and CoHousing. Download flyer (130K pdf)

What is EcoHousing?  EcoHousing allows community members to “tread lightly” on the earth by incorporating green features and reducing dependence on the automobile.

Green features include energy-efficient buildings, a small footprint, fruit trees, organic gardens, and rain gardens (on-site water retention).

Reduced Driving:  Equally important, the lifestyle and location facilitate reduced car dependence.  With many activities onsite and nearby, residents won't feel the need to leave the neighborhood as often.

The site is:

  • one block from the light rail station, with access to downtown Sacramento
  • two blocks from Historic Downtown Folsom
  • two blocks from the American River bike trail

What is CoHousing?  Cohousing combines private homes with generous shared facilities, thus creating the feeling of a small village where neighbors know and care about each other.  Future residents actively participate in the design and management of their own neighborhood.  The Common House is a hub of social activity for the cohousing residents and is also available as a community center for neighborhood gatherings.
